Artist's Description
My wife's parents live on Paul Street in Pocahontas, Arkansas. This picture was taken at 5:30 am as I was taking my dog out for her constitutional. As I looked up the street, I was taken by the quality of light in the predawn hours. The image isn't about anything in particular, but it is about a time of day, a kind of light, a mood and a place in anyone's hometown.

Artists have been accused of being self aggrandizing, long winded, name droppers. I hate it when the critics get it right! very nice! i walk often in the early morning and love the peace and quiet. AND the smell of donuts from the donut shop. V. Happy new year!
William Fields replied:
Thanks Joan! It's funny how the things we smell become as much a part of our memories as the things we see. Years ago, I would do a morning run (many years ago) and the smell of fresh baked bread coming from a bakery was one of my distinct memories of those runs. I don't know if I could tell you about what the buildings in the neighborhoods looked like but I can still remember the smell of the bread.
