Artist's Description
This farm sits on a rise looking out across bottom land with an expansive view of the surrounding Missouri farm land. Aside from open fields there isn't much between here and the next farm off in the distance. As I was shooting this, some men in a pickup came and told me about cattle thieves operating in the area who would photograph the farms and then come back later for the stock. Then they pointedly asked if I was a cattle thief. I was a bit flummoxed, but produced one of my cards. That seemed to satisfy them. My business card actually has a photo of a farm on it. I told them which farm it was and they were happy. They knew the family that owned the property in the picture on my card.

Artists have been accused of being self aggrandizing, long winded, name droppers. I hate it when the critics get it right! In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...
