Artist's Description

This picture is at the top of Mosi oa Tunya, better known to the outside world as Victoria Falls. Mosi oa Tunya in Lozi, a Bantu language of Southern Zambia, means The Smoke Which Thunders. I much prefer the original name. The falls were dubbed Victoria by Sir David Livingstone in honor of his queen. Most westerners know who Queen Victoria is but, very few have ever heard of the Lozi language or Mosi oa Tunya.

Our guide walked us to the edge of the chasm and asked if we were allergic to heights. This seemed an odd question until he indicated that we should look down into the foam and mist. I don’t normally have a problem with heights but the mixture of rushing water, all-blanketing mist and the depth of the gorge were dizzying.

When I took this picture and there were no dry parts on me or my camera. As soon as I walked to a safer, drier location, I used a dry handkerchief to wipe down as much of the camera as I could. This included removing the batteries and memory...
