Thanks Kate! I believe this is lushest and earliest spring I've seen since moving to Missouri 19 years ago.

Artist's Description

Green grow the lilacs, all sparkling with dew
I'm lonely, my darling, since parting with you;
But by our next meeting I'll hope to prove true
And change the green lilacs to the Red, White and Blue.
I once had a sweetheart, but now I have none
She's gone and she's left me, I care not for one
Since she's gone and left me, contented I'll be,
For she loves another one better than me
From the Irish Folk Song

This song was popular in America around the time of the Mexican American War, circa 1850. There is an inaccurate etymological attribution. It was believed that the word 'gringo' came from Mexicans hearing American troops singing this song. In 1932 it was the title song of a play written by Lynn Riggs. Rodgers and Hammerstein used Riggs’ play as the basis for “Oklahoma!”.

I try to put everything I have learned from every great teacher and through every mistake I have made into each and every piece with as much passion as I have for art and for life itself. Artists have been accused of being self aggrandizing, long winded, name droppers. I hate it when the critics get it right! In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...
