I had an appointment to drop my fiddle off to violin maker, Greg Krone this morning. I planned to go out shooting before hand. Greg said that I would find a field of sunflowers near his place. The blooms are past their prime, but fascinating to me nonetheless.
These bronzed, drooping seed heads are as much an announcement that summer is ending as anything else I can think of. The sun-dried flowers are a metaphor for the end of a time for growing and the start of the harvest season. And by extension, they are a metaphor for the last part of life when we have aged and withered as well.
