That in all the zoo
Only the sea lions
Seem happy
From the poem Sea Lions by Valerie Worth
In English we call these fine creatures sea lions. In Spanish they are known as sea wolves, lobos del mar. To my mind, they are certainly more dog like than lionesque. Even their voices are more like a bark than a roar. This handsome fellow is expelling air prior to his ascent to breathe again. Note the reflection of the rapt observer on the right side of the picture.

In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...

A really good exposure through glass. Many stand too far away, get too much reflection from the glass itself, so the camera focuses on the glass instead of the subject. Like the capture of the boy watching the Seal, it adds to the interest... V, F, Tweeted to 41K + When I dont wish to capture anything but the animals in zoos through glass, have a rubber lens hood that I use. Can press it up against the glass and still move the camera. It blocks all light reflections, so probably would have missed this one....

Thanks N&B, I have one of those rubber hoods on my 90mm lens. Never thought about it. I'll definitely give it a try. Light isn't too much of an issue with my new camera. This was shot at ISO 6400!
