Finding this body part is akin to coming upon a crime scene. One knows something dastardly has happened. A fox or a cat are the most likely suspects. The rest of the remains are no where to be found. Presumably, they became a meal for the perpetrator. Fantasy aside, what interests me about this photo are the textures in the feathers and in the debris on the ground that is clearly under an oak tree. There is a rawness and a sense of solitude or loss about this image of a dismembered appendage. Yet, I feel, that in the cold sadness of the subject there is a kind of beauty.
