Wukoki is an Anasazi ruin near Flagstaff, Arizona. It was an apartment building for the ancient people who lived here in the high desert. Unlike many of the ruins in the American Southwest, Wukoki is located on a hillock overlooking a vast stretch of the Colorado Plateau. Wukoki is arguably, a strategic location chosen for purposes observation. If there was a sentry atop the towers, intruders could be seen coming for miles off. Today there is little water to support agriculture, but in the times that the site was occupied, there was a small wash that most likely had sufficient water for those who lived and worked the area. The Hopi people consider this place sacred and periodically visit it to renew and enrich their personal understanding of Bear, Katsina, Lizard, Rattlesnake, Sand, Snow, and Water Clan history.
