Artist's Description

White Pocket is an area within the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument about half way between Page, Arizona and Kanab, Utah. Visiting the area is no simple task and requires some determination. One must first have the use of a four-wheel drive vehicle and then be willing to drive more than three hours over poorly marked roads of deep soft sand, ice, mud, rocks and ruts. There are free range cattle to contend with and herds of mule deer. Then to top it all off, the maps do not show all the roads. One can find oneself at a fork in the middle of nowhere with no idea which branch to take. The GPS rarely gives more information than the vague description: Unpaved Road. But, in the end, it is a most worthwhile place to visit. It is a rare thing in our busy world to find yourself hours from pavement and completely alone in a natural wonderland. Oh, did I mention that there is no cell phone service?
