Description
That big old white farmhouse on top of the rise as you drove over from Stony Hill was our home place. On a snowy day in the winter time, it looked just like a wedding cake. We had some fine times in that house. I remember all eight of us kids and Mom and Dad sitting around the table for dinner. Some nights it seemed like a carnival. We were all teasing and joking. My younger brother Ronnie almost always made milk come out of his nose when he laughed. Christmas at our place was a time of joy. Everyone was so excited. We didn’t have much but we sure had each other. We worked hard, studied hard and played like there was no tomorrow. Every one of us was a crackerjack student, an athlete, a musician or something else just as special. The one thing we had in abundance was love. We were a family the way a family is supposed to be. It’s been years since I had been back there. All my brothers and sisters have moved on and the folks live in town now. I drove out there the other day expecting it to be just the same. Time has gone on. The place is empty and it has gone to seed. Windows are busted out and the TV antenna is hanging over sideways. Without all of us and our memories the place looks kind of sad and lost.

Great image and the story makes it too, voted.
William Fields replied:
Thanks very much Paul. I appreciate it that you both viewed and read the attendant piece.

William, I always speculate about the "living" that has gone on in old houses, and you've supplied this image with a touching and memorable glimpse into the lives of its occupants. The gray tones add to the melancholy mood. Nice! voted
William Fields replied:
Thanks Cheri! I was torn between interpreting the picture as a monochrome or in toned down, desaturated color. I opted for the latter as you can see. The story is an amalgamation of families I have known and my own thoughts and feelings. I'm glad you like the piece.
