Description
This sculptural piece completed in 1895 by George Grey Barnard reclines in front of Lewisohn Hall on the campus of Columbia University, NYC. The statue has a history of restlessness. It was commissioned by the Clark family who were the heirs and owners of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. It was originally intended to be a fountain in the lobby of the Dakota Building, later the home of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. When Barnard died in 1896 the original plan fell apart. At one point the Clarks offered it to the City of New York for a Central Park location. There was a scandal in the press when the Board of Parks declined. The statue was stored for ten years until it was donated to Columbia. Since, it has been moved to a number of different locations on Campus to make way for new construction and later for concerns about having a pagan deity in front of a christian chapel. The statue has occupied three different locations on campus.

I like the angle you captured this image William, with the buildings and tree branches as the background - great job with post processing - gives it a bit of a Fairytale appearance - Dave - V/F/P

Thanks Dave, I like that interpretation. I hadn't thought of it that way, but I agree and see it now that you've said it.
