When I find decrepit farmhouses while driving around Missouri highways and byways, I invariably want to know the story behind how the place came to be in such a state. I know the story too well. The old folks died or were too far along to take care of the place anymore so their kids put them in a nursing home. Before long the old home place has gone to ruin. No one wants to be the one to say let’s sell it. All the siblings are hoping that one of their brothers or sisters will speak up and say that they’d like to restore it. It doesn’t happen most of the time, so the countryside is dotted with places just like this. It is a sorrowful tale. Yet, even in the sadness and decrepitude, these old farms have so much character and strength. They are a constant reminder of the lives that were spent there and the great adventures that a family or several generations of a family had. All of my works are fine art photographs.
