Love the mystery and story of times gone by, William. You are great at capturing the uniqueness of each of these old boats and for presenting them in a way that seems honoring. LF

William Fields replied:

Thanks so much for your kind words and support Ann.

Artist's Description

Popeye's Boat, The Olive, ostensibly named for his girlfriend, Olive Oyl has been depicted as various types of boats over the years. There is even one version that has the name "The Spinacher", but Bud Sagendorf, one of Popeye's creators said it was "The Olive". I am trusting Mr. Sagendorf.

This particular craft is in a boat graveyard on the Homer Spit in Homer, Alaska.

One of a Kind

You can purchase a one of a kind, original print of this image directly from the artist by contacting me via email. The picture is signed and the mat has a hand drawn remarque in graphite. The paper and inks are archival and the printing is done under my direct supervision.

An original print is one on which I have personally supervised the process. It is printed on archival paper using archival inks. I hand sign the piece and draw a remarque on the mat that in some way reflects the original image. This small original drawing adds aesthetic interest as well as value to...

I try to put everything I have learned from every great teacher and through every mistake I have made into each and every piece with as much passion as I have for art and for life itself. Artists have been accused of being self aggrandizing, long winded, name droppers. I hate it when the critics get it right! In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...
