Artist's Description
I love the times when clouds settle right down on the surface of the earth. There is a mystical, magical sense that comes over everything at those times. Along the Missouri River in North Central Missouri, we see that sort of thing often. There is fog on the surface of the river and in every nook and cranny along the country roads. On the morning I shot this picture there was brilliant sunlight streaming over the hilltops and clouds dwelling in the hollows between the hills.
I get a gripping sensation in my throat as I drive into the yellow, impenetrable fog. I drive blindly, praying that I will not encounter a deer, a disabled vehicle or another traveler. I never have and I hope I never will. It hardly ever lasts. Before long, I find that I have driven back out into sunshine and a greater sense of safety. I have to ask this question. Do I love the fog because of its beauty, or do I love it because there is an inherent specter of danger and adventure?
