When the dinner-bell I hear,
Over woodland, dale, and fell,
Swinging slow with solemn swell,
The dinner-bell! the dinner-bell!
From the Poem Duets by Thomas Love Peacock
This old bell was used on a farm near Hermann, Missouri to call the hands to eat. It was owned by the family of Dr. Workman and Marylin Shaw Smith nee Workman. Mrs. Smith had it mounted on the post shown. I inherited it when I bought my house from her.
