Description
Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
From the song Suzanne by Leonard Cohen
The fruit in the picture are actually kumquats. I thought them citrusy enough to be permitted the use of this title. They come from a tree owned by a friend and they arrived yesterday. I have been eating them constantly and it is a wonder that there were enough left for the picture. The sharp, tart, sweet combination that bursts in one’s mouth when biting into one of these orange gems is almost too much to bear. They are a bit of paradise on the tongue. The lady who sent the kumquats and her husband, in addition to having an orchard of various tropical trees are great hunters. They have hunted elk in the Rockies and Eland in the savannas of Tanzania. Their home is filled with mounted heads and other kinds of trophies from their adventures around the world. When I last visited with them, I was being shown the latest additions to their collection when I felt stunned by what I saw. Standing along the wall of the cathedral ceilinged library stood a mounted adult giraffe. Not just the head, but the entire animal. The enormity of this creature left me speechless. I had to let the river answer.

Fantastic imagery, kumquats are my favorite, and if they are fresh, the stem with the leaves will grow from cuttings in planted. I voted for this.
William Fields replied:
Thanks Joseph, those that we didn't eat are now in jars of marmelade and candied kumquats!

A beautiful warm and dozy scene William! Now I want to go buy a kumquat and taste for the first time! v

Love the finish and warm tones William! And thanks for the info on kumquats; just when I think I've heard of every fruit on the planet, up pops another one ;^) F + V :^)
William Fields replied:
Ashley, thanks! I'm surprised about the kumquats. I'd have thought they'd be profuse in Thailand?

William, I think that I know the lady in question, and I'm sure that she will be flattered, although surprised. Not many knew of the big game trophy collection in the library. Now, that you've 'let the cat out of the bag' everyone will know about it.
