Description
I had a short respite from the bitterness of January last week. It was near sunset as I walked along the beach in St. Petersburg, Florida. There was a drum circle with dancing bikini clad girls and all manner of percussion instruments. There were congas and bongos, and tom-toms from a drum kit. There were homemade drums and American Indian drums. There were tablas and other drums I had never seen before. The drumming was vigorous, but my attention was drawn to these seahorses dancing across the sky. They were silky looking and caught the air through their open mouths. There was a fourth yellow seahorse that I omitted from my composition because I like odd numbers. The kite string was so long, I never saw the pilot. Once I was satisfied with my pictures, I returned to watch the bikini girls and the drummers. The drummers were required to stop at sunset by local rules so I headed off for a dinner of grouper tacos and a cup of fiery gumbo.

Fantastic photography of the celebration it seems of winter turning into spring! I voted for this image.

The great composition and the spacing of the seahorses is what really caught my eye initially. Well done

Very nice work William... The colors, the "out of habitat" seahorses, and the slightly dramatic lighting :) Fav/Vote

Beautiful shot - an inspired moment to capture, very dramatic colours and contrasts (V;F - CfC)

Wonderful image William! Salt Air, Sand and Seahorses! What a fantastic combination! I don't know how big these kites actually were but you're wonderful processing has made them look awesome in comparison to the "little people". What fun! f/v/g+
William Fields replied:
Thanks Barbara! I'm not sure how large they were either. It was difficult to gauge as they were airborne of course. But, I think they were probably on the order of 4 to 5 feet tall. I had the kites as close to me as possible and the people were in the distance. That probably accounts for the disparity in size. Thanks again!

Love the idea of sea horses flying across the sky! Great capture.I like the three of them - think you were right to omit the fourth. fav/v
