Artist's Description
Winter descends on the Midwestern prairies in an iced coating that seems to simplify the world. The earth and the sky are hardly discernible from each the other. Cattle seem to be ink blots for analyzing the psyche of a world out of balance. There is still work to be done but it is not as evident as it was a few short months ago. The heavy machinery of modern farming is stored away in barns awaiting the thaw. The men and women who work this land have become behind the scenes laborers caring for their animals, planning crops, ordering seeds, starting seedlings, and in some cases, tending winter crops.
