A single bloom at first announced the onset of spring As it raised its pretty head beneath the lone, grand oak in that field. The storm came close and shook all that was in its path. The little bloom was fearless as she rested in the shadow of her mighty protector. Sadly, the oak barely noticed the pretty thing For it was busy showing its broad trunk to the impending storm. The flower realized that the oak had no love for her and she began to fail. Petal by delicate petal fell like tears upon the meadow And each one became another purple flower Enveloping the grand oak in a carpet of blooms. She gave beyond imagination to the stern oak For although her love was unrequited, it was limitless.
