A wintery scene in the Missouri Bottoms that I love so well tells a visual tale of survival and thriving. There are rich, thrilling landscapes in every season. This is on a December day when the leafy foliage is gone and the grasses are goldenly dormant. The light is by far what is most important in my interpretation of the scene. The way these mighty sycamores catch the oblique light of the approaching solstice on their bonelike branches speaks volumes to why I have found a home in Missouri.
