Artist's Description
The village of Hermann, Missouri sits beside the wide Missouri River through flood and drought. Built in the first half of the 19th century by German immigrants, the town has the trappings of a German village of the same era. The houses are built right up to the sidewalks with hidden gardens in back. There are more than one hundred buildings on the National Historic Register in the town. The tidy village bespeaks the heritage of the “Scrubby Dutch” citizens. If all that were not enough, Hermann offers some of the finest wines in America; has a historic winery that was the second largest in the U.S. prior to prohibition and Hermann root stock saved wine for the world when the phylloxera louse devastated vineyards in Europe around 1850-1870. It was root stock from Hermann, Missouri that was used to overcome the blight in Europe.
In this idyllic scene the village appears as if it materialized out of the fog in some magical way.

In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...

Beautiful photo. The composition draws me right into the town and then I become aware of the pristine environment in which it sits. From there I'm drawn to the water which brings me back into the town. Magical.
