Description
I go by this old place all the time. The truck is about sixty years old and that barn has to be at least three times as much. It held stock and hay, tools and tack and things we just couldn’t throw away. Crops were planted and harvested in some of the worst weather by folk who were carved from the rich earth and yellow limestone hereabouts. They were men and women who pulled cows teats and churned butter in the kitchen by a wood fire. They made apple butter in an iron kettle; cut wood lots for their comfort and groomed horses in preparation of wooing a maid. Funny how some things just keep on being here. Like some people I guess. Yet, people do come and go. Even in a town like this where hardly anyone leaves and most die where they were born. The young and anxious pack up and go off to college or to find work in the city. A lot of them eventually come back for the clean air, the clean water and hardly any crime. We don’t have much in the way of conveniences, but we make up for it in the quality of life. The ghosts of farmers who wrote down how much wheat they sold or what the weather was like each day of their lives give their blessing and reside in places like this. On a cold, fog laden winter day like today if you listen carefully you can hear them speak.

Such a lovely silvery hue to the barns and the sky, the bright red truck just pulls it all together!..v

I feel I don't thank the administrators of the groups that honor my work often enough. I want to single out Bob and Nadine Johnston of Artists News and Larry Bishop of Vote and Vote Often for featuring this picture. Thanks folks for your wonderful support.

This is a wonderful country scene and I love the sharp details and the fact that the truck and barn have seemed to aged together.

Old barns and old trucks just go together. I love the composition of this photo the close foreground sets up the way your eye will travel to the left then back through the smaller objects to the main focal point of the barn. Great work
William Fields replied:
Spoken like a true artist. Thank you Steve. I appreciate your kindness and support.

William, What a treasure from yesteryear! I love your composition with its differing textures, colors and amazing detail. You have captured the soul of this old barn very nicely. It brings back many memories and that is what a great photograph does. Well done! vtd

Great write up on this area. You can feel the remnants of good old-fashioned values in the air....great capture and processing. Great mood! v/f
William Fields replied:
Nancy, thank you. I'm glad you liked the bit of musing. I enjoy writing as much as I do creating the visual art. For me the two are inseparable.
