Artist's Description
I came upon this swordfish in a grocery store. It was laying upon a container of ice and two young men were cutting up the steaks. All in all, it was a fairly festive scene. I took several pictures, but I could never get settled on the celebratory atmosphere that prevailed. This great fish was the focus of my interest and it was dead. I somehow had to find a way to convey that without seeming maudlin. There can be a kind of beauty in death that transcends our emotion around the basic concept. In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...

Awesome!!! Love the processing!
William Fields replied:
Thanks G&C, I think part of it is the available (and very weird) lighting in the store. My exposure was a little long and hand held so there's a softness to the overall image that I think contrasts well with the hardness of the subject.
