Artist's Description
In landscapes there are damaged, yet unspeakably beautiful trees that have been stricken by wind, rain, lightning and other forces of nature. I have spent many of my six plus decades seeking and attempting to capture these sculptural spirits that enhance an otherwise unbroken line of trees in a seemingly perfect world. The not-so-perfect statement that the blasted tree imposes on the landscape is the kind of imperfection that speaks to my soul. It is akin to a beautiful girl with teeth a bit too large for her mouth; a time marred piece of furniture with indentations where a key bumbled against the finish around a lock or the exquisite crystal goblet with a chip on the base of the stem that I will never part with. In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...
