Artist's Description
These antlers are from a Colorado mule deer. They were sent to me by a friend who lives near Denver. My friend doesn’t hunt so I don’t know with any certainty where the horn came from.
I imagine a hunter in a tree stand with two feet of snow on the ground. He sits in his perch half hoping he won’t have to drag a too large buck back to the road where his pickup waits. Periodic blasts of wind slide through his garments like a stiletto and he sips whiskey from a flask to stave off November’s icy grip. Now, in this wintery chill he waits.

In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...

Deer shed their horns each year, if lucky you can find them in the woods. Some with permits to cut firewood in National Forests find and sell them...
William Fields replied:
Thanks for the feature Bob and Nadine. I have a large single antler that I found in our woods a few years back. I had a man make a basket with it. He wove the basket around the antler and used the horn itself for the base.
