Description
The dangling branch is in the forest where I live in Missouri. This place is about 100 yards from my front door. It is a magical place where gnomes and fairies dwell. I have just finished writing a story about fairies for my granddaughter that I will excerpt here.
When Jumpity had finished singing, the girls noticed that several other creatures had gathered to hear the song the fairies gave to the Green Man as a tribute. There were deer and skunks. There were ground hogs and bobcats. There were pretty forest birds in every color. All the animals were at peace with one another and sitting on the back of a raven was a very beautiful little person. He was armed with a saber and it was obvious that he was a fireflier or a soldier among the fairies. He had come because he heard Jumpity singing and then remained because he wanted to meet Lily and Iris. He stepped down from the large bird quite easily and bowed to the girls saying Kheelan Elfstone, son of Oberon at your service. Lily and Iris knew that Oberon was the name of a fairy king and realized that Kheelan Elfstone was a prince. He held special status as a prince but also as a warrior among the fairies. He asked the girls why they had come to the forest. They were so filled with excitement that they were unable to answer at first. But in some time, Iris finally said we have come to see the fairies your majesty. Kheelan rubbed his hand over his chin thoughtfully and said Then we must find at least one more of my tribe or your quest will be unfulfilled. Two of us would be fairies, but just me alone could only be thought of as fairy. Then he smiled because the eyes of Iris and Lily were quite wide and their mouths had drifted open into large Ohs. Lily reached into the backpack and withdrew the magnifying glass to get a much better look at the fairy prince and he smiled as she examined him.
Kheelan then spoke a language that the two girls did not understand and all the animals formed a circle around the party that was now made up of Jumpity, Kheelan and the two girls. They all moved off together as an armada of creatures and children led by a talking rabbit and a fairy prince.
