Description
Meigs Point is an area along the Connecticut shore on Long Island Sound. Meigs Point Reach is a name I have concocted to indicate the way the peninsula reaches out into the Sound. The area called Meigs Point has been known since colonial days. The land most likely was once owned by a Daniel Meigs although there is no documentation to support this. Meigs Point is an area of beach and attendant salt marshes that were once farmed, producing potatoes, corn, oats, orchards and salt hay on a parcel known then as Meigs Island Farm. The hay was shipped by schooner to New York City to feed the horses that pulled the trolleys. One of the unusual features of Meigs Point are the boulders. There is not now nor is there evidence of a historical great river that could have been the source of the boulders. It must be concluded that the boulders were deposited by the last glacier approximately 20,000 to 25,000 years ago.
At one time the Boston Post Road swung south from its present route, ran easterly along the beach, went past the Meigs Island Farm and out along a tree filled peninsula to Cedar Island where it crossed the Hammonasset River. All that is left of the old route now is that area heading towards Cedar Island. There are rut marks in some of the rocks and it is evident that many of the rocks were pushed aside to make the way more passable for the stage with its cargo of mail and passengers.

Awesome depth to it! Almost like a cold winter day, and a rainstorm approaching. I voted for this image.

Thanks Geeta. The effect is referred to as HDR or High Dynamic Range. I tend to tone the effect down a little to get a more realistic looking picture. I'm glad you like it.
