Description
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
A traditional Irish Blessing, author unknown
This picture is a country lane near my home in Missouri. It was a wintry day with nothing very inviting about it. I was on a mission to feed my friend's dogs while they were away for the day. I stopped to take the picture and the wind was whipping the icy bits of snow around me while forcing tears from my eyes and causing my nose to run. Shivering, I checked my exposure, shot the picture, got back into my warm car and headed on down the road.
My processing of the image was intended to capture a sense of the lonely spot and the bitterness of the day. When it came time to start thinking about a title the only way I could find to add some warmth to the picture was through the Irish blessing that I have used.

Beautiful composition and perspective, I like the touch of color in the middle of the road!
William Fields replied:
Thanks Elena! I just now realized that you changed your avatar. At first I thought you were someone new that I didn't know. You're much lovelier in this one.

I love the almost black and white look with only the thin yellow line of color. Great perspective. Fabulous work, William. vf
William Fields replied:
Thank you Mary. I gave more than a little thought to that issue of monochrome vs. spot color vs. color shot. The temptation was to go all monochrome, but I opted to treat the image as a color photo. I do think it has a B&W feel as you mentioned. It has to do with the grim weather that day. Thanks again!

William, And may the luck of the Irish follow you along your travels. I especially like the texture you've added to this scene and your color choice reinforces the frigid conditions you found. Voted
William Fields replied:
Cheri, thanks very much for the wish of luck as well as your kind words about the picture.
