Description
Originally the title was supposed to be "Crab, It's What's for Dinner". Unfortunately, the software used by FAA is unable to handle punctuation in general and apostrophes in particular. Crabby Bill's is a restaurant with a half dozen locations in Florida. http://www.crabbybills.com/locations.html When I decided to rename the piece because I was dissatisfied with my inability to use the name I wanted. The new name, it turns out is a play on words in that the bird has a crab in its bill. I like that. It has a certain je ne c'est quoi: )
The seagull was wading in the surf, stuck his head into the water and came up with a crab in his mouth. A few other gulls tried to steal his prize so he flew up and away. I started following him with my camera and clicked off a few shots. This one was the best of the lot. The location is in Watch Hill, Rhode Island on a spit of land that extends out into the ocean called Napatree Point. As a youth, I spent many hours snorkeling and spear fishing there. The point is a mile and a half long and has the remains of a fort with gun emplacements out at the tip which was used to watch for German submarines during World War I. When I was a boy I remember hearing a legend that there was a sub that sank off the end of the point. Apparently, the legend is false. There was a sub called the Deutchland that was being escorted past the point by two tugboats in 1916. The Deutchland accidentally rammed one of the tugs sinking it. Four of the five crew members died in the incident. The sub returned to a berth at New London, Connecticut.

Excellent catch Bill! And I empathise with you regarding not being able to use apostrophes and other symbols when adding text here on FAA, especially in the titles where they're often essential to get one's message across! Anyhoo, lovely image that deserves a V and F and even an FB share ;^)
