Description
In the Jimi Hendrix song Castles Made of Sand, life is desperate. In each verse, a person's dreams are shattered by unexpected circumstances. In the final verse, a young woman
who is bent on suicide finds the inspiration to live.
But then a sight she'd never seen made her jump and say
Look, a golden winged ship is passing my way
And it really didn't have to stop...it just kept on going.
And so castles made of sand slip into the sea, eventually
This picture was created from an image I shot with a Fujifilm X-E1, mirrorless DSLR converted to infrared. It is part of a collection of monochrome images of the Southwest that will be published in 2016.
All of my works are fine art photographs. The Fine Art America algorithms do not allow photos to be sold as original art so in order to offer the original piece, my work must be listed as digital art. My work offered as "original' means that I will not sell the image to anyone else. The purchaser is guaranteed a one of a kind image which can only be acquired through direct contact with me. The art photo is printed using the highest quality materials available today and is certified to be one of a kind. There are a number of factors that separate the work from production or giclee prints. I personally supervise the printing and control the source material. You are guaranteed a unique work of art.
I deeply and humbly appreciate all the kind words and support I receive about my work. The greatest compliment you can pay me is to share my work with others. Please share it on Facebook, on Twitter and other social media. Or, just send the url to a friend or family member who might enjoy seeing it in an email. Spread the word to any and all that you think will find what I do interesting and appealing.
Please contact me by email to get on the mailing list for my forthcoming Acclaim Press book, Hermann, Missouri, One of the Prettiest Towns in America.
Watch my postings for announcements on two other photo books that are in the works.
The Fine Art America Watermark will not appear on any products purchased.
This scene is in Bryce Canyon. The hoodoo formations are so distinctive, the image can hardly be anywhere else. This close-up of a canyon is another world.
One of a Kind
You can purchase a one of a kind, original print of this image directly from the artist by contacting me via email. The picture is signed and the mat has a hand drawn remarque in graphite. The paper and inks are archival and the printing is done under my direct supervision.
An original print is one on which I have personally supervised the process. It is printed on archival paper using archival inks. I hand sign the piece and draw a remarque on the mat that in some way reflects the original image. This small original drawing adds aesthetic interest as well as value to the print. In the case of Castles Made of Sand in the Hoodoos I might draw an arrowhead, a cactus or some other related objects in graphite.
An original print is a higher value collector's piece because of the additional care and handling. It differs from the prints that are sold by Fine Art America by virtue of the quality of materials, the signature and the remarque. Its increased value to the collector is in its one of a kind status.
I frame the image using gallery molding - clean, square wood molding in either black, white, natural or walnut stain. It has a contemporary look that gives the piece a professional finish.
Each piece can now be printed using a dye sublimation process on aluminum. The finish is water resistant, scratch resistant and has better anti-fade properties than images printed on the highest quality photo paper. Pricing is comparable with framed work. The remarque would not be available on a metal print.
In the case of metal prints where a remarque is not feasible, I produce and include in the package, a graphite drawing on high quality archival paper that relates to the photo in way that is consistent with a remarque.
Shipping & Handling are based on zip code. I can give you a specific price when I know the destination. The size of the image is 24x36. The mat and frame add to the size. The finished piece is approximately 30x40.
Additionally, prints of all of my photos can be purchased directly from me in various sizes that include a signature, a remarque and custom framing. Please contact me by email for details and pricing.
